[NLRS] DEMI 10 GHz Transverter Question

Good questions Scott. As Donn points out, just a few short weeks ago I
would agree with your strategy. However, the new DEMI 10 MHz locked
synthesized LO changes my opinion now. In addition, having fewer "boxes"
(ie; power amp built with the transverters) helps with reliability.
Without consideration of economics, I would buy the completed transverter
with the power amp but go with their new A32 LO board instead of the
previous standard MICRLO LO. You will then need to add an external 10
MHz reference, but the upside is that you should be within a KHz or so of
frequency and you will stay there. If economy comes into play, the
second choice may be to go with the low power transverter (built) and build
the external power amp yourself, but I would still suggest going with the
A32 LO. If economy still is an issue, the third option is to go just like
you have stated and stick with the MICROLO crystal based LO .... most of us
have been using crystal LOs and have been making a lot of QSOs that way.
However, it does appears that the next generation of "rigs" will include
better frequency control (like the A32 LO does) which will improve the
chances for even more contacts.
