Ian's description is accurate and easily understandable... i.e., it makes sense intuitively.
Are you using:
a) horizontal polarization (i.e., weak signal, not FM) ?
b) yagis or loop yagis ? It makes a difference in how you physically mount the antennas and how you run cables.
c) a true power splitter (i.e., all line impedances are 50 ohms), or a phasing harness (3/4-wavelengths of 75-ohm line
from each antenna to a common point, and then 50 ohm line to the radio) ? Generally, you don't have " a splitter AND a
phasing harness."
