Hi all, it was quite the opening here for sure. It lasted at about 3 hours
here...first contact was MM0AMW at 2151 UTC and he was 599 on cw.
Proceeded to work lots after that, last contact was with MM0AMW again for a
10 minute chat on SSB up around 50.150...he was 5x7 to 59 SSB the whole
time, it was pretty amazing. We signed off with him about 0145 or so. I
recorded the whole conversation on the Flex 5000, so Im going to burn a CD
and mail it too him...
I finished the night getting CY0X at 0150, 5x9 QSB as he just started to
come in, but not for long. Lots of guys just east of me working him for a
few hours, with nothing heard here. Went to get something to eat and missed
the OX3...oh well, got him back in 2000 or 2001, cant recall.
Recap was 23 EU QSOs...
G x 6
GM x 4
GI x 4
GD0 x 1
EA x 1
CU x 1
F x 2
PA x 3
ON x 1
and CY0X
Not any new ones except CY0X, but now I have a few more PAs, so I can get a
card :)
Running 300 watts, 5 element M2 at 60 feet or so.
The Flex 5000 / LT6S xverter combo was great for finding them and digging em
out.
I even recorded a bit of W0ZQ with his QSO with MM0AMW...pretty cool.
Most reports given were 559...most got were same.
Direction did not seem to matter here...signals heard at 25 to 75 degrees,
very broad and with little attenuation at the edges...peaked about 45 to 50
as best I could tell. Worked most of them about 65 to 70 degrees as I had
noise below that until the guys went home from work at a nearby building,
and turned off their noisy electronic ballast fixtures...hope they dont come
in to work tomorrow. That was about 5:45 local.
We shall see what tomorrow does...what a great opening for the Midwest!
Hope lots of you got into the action!
Should be some new ones in the Caribbean tomorrow!
