Hello NLRS land.
As most of you are aware, the ARRL January VHF Contest results are out on
the League's website. As is not uncommon for this time of year it was
very cold with lows temperatures pushing -20F and day time highs near zero.
Given our weather it makes sense that not a lot of rovers were out & about.
However, hats off to W9FZ/R and KC0IYT/R for pushing the envelope and
following good winter survival practices.
With 17 logs in the NLRS placed 7th out of 16 total clubs in the Medium
category, not bad considering the cold temperatures and associated poor
propagation. January is often a tough contest for us and it shows in that
we got skunked with no one placing in any of the top ten categories this
year. In the SOLP category the top three in our region were N0KP, N0VZJ,
and NG0R. The SOHP is getting to be a little lonely with only three logs
from W0ZQ, K0AWU, and KI0LE in that order - I won't mention the fact that
the SOHP in the Midwest Div. was won with a single QSO (1 x 1 = 1) by a
not-to-be-named station in NW Iowa. Congratulations to the W0MR limited
multi guys for winning Dakota Division in their class. There were no QRP
nor Multi class stations (in Dakota).
Vince, N0VZJ, had the highest 6m grid count with 16 followed by K0AWU with
15. Seven of our 17 club logs had 16, 17, or 18 grids worked on 2m.
Due to the cold, no one had any claims for QSO's above 3456 MHz (its too
cold to get the dish on the tower, and/or to stand outside !!!!). Looking
at grids worked by band across the nation, W0ZQ was 6th on 902, 12th on
1296, and 23rd on 3456 due almost entirely to the excellent work of W9FZ/R
& KC0IYT/R.
In the entire contest there were 710 logs broken down as follows: 432 SOLP,
135 SOHP, 33 Limited Multis, 28 Multi's, 34 Rovers, 24 Limited Rovers, and
one Unlimited Rover. Interesting to see that the new Limited Rover class
had good participation.
73, Jon
W0ZQ
