Thanks everyone that has replied regarding their experiences using the 
FT-857D's transverter mode.

One question I forgot to ask andon ethat noone has so far volunteered; 
When set for the common i/f transverter mode on either HF or VHF, does the 
857 perchance output any positive DC bias voltage onto the RF line that 
could be decoupled within the transverter to key the PTT sequencing, or 
is it necessary to use the TXGnd signal from the acc port?  Obviously I 
could modify the 857 to do that myself, but it would certainly be 
convenient if it does so already.
