Hello NLRS'ers:
I've been reading about LOTW in my QST's. I know it is not
used for any VHF award programs yet. As a rover, it is
particularly tedious to break my log into "locations". But
I did it for the following contests and uploaded my logs:
Jun 07 VHF
Aug 07 UHF
Sep 07 VHF
Jan 08 VHF Sweeps
That means 1349 QSO's. So far, 108 of those intersect with
others who have uploaded their logs (to LOTW) making
"QSL's". That's 8% yield rate (so far). The most QSL's are
with K9NS and N2BJ. But I see K0AWU, N9AKR, W9RM and K9CT
(and others) in there too.
I don't think a rover, who operates on the move, can viably
participate in LOTW. For a rover on the move, there is no
real way to determine "location" at the time of QSO--at
least in terms of the 1000' circles, etc required by ARRL
VHF awards. A rover who operates from a parked location can
determine his location right down to the county, ITU zone,
and CQ zone. I had one case where I had two different and
separate locations in EM-59. Other than that I had just one
location per grid so far.
I've had a fair number of Q's with some of you. If you
submit your contest logs to LOTW, we may have a few QSL's
pop up. (Provided you listed me as W9FZ/R in your log :-)
).
If you are a rover and want more detailed steps of what
you'll have to do to submit logs to LOTW, let me know and
I'll cut and paste (to you) what I posted on the
vhfcontesting reflector. (KC0IYT and W0IS were big helps to
me)
