Hello NLRS land. Last summer my 222 beacon was subjected to a near by
lighting strike and it stop operating. The beacon is an old Hamtronix transverter
driven by a homebrew 10m QRP oscillator. The main board has an output power
of about one watt which I used to drive a small amp to 5 watts which in turn
drove a Mirage C106 to about 30 watts out. The near strike seemed to have
taken out just about every solid state device in the system with the exception
of some of the LO NPN drivers ... the LO was the only thing working !
After replacing the J108 FETs in the mixer, the two transistor 10m QRP driver,
and all the RF stages, its now alive again and doing about 1 watt. That is the
good news. The bad news it that it appears that all the higher RF gain
stages, including the C106 amp, are toast. Also, the 222 phasing line for the
two omni loops seemed to have suffered as well as they have high SWR. So,
the next job is to climb the pine tree and to see what is going on with the 222
omni's ..... I may need to take them down and fix them as well. So on a
temporary basis, the W0ZQ/B on 222.060 is running at one watt into my 222 yagi
pointed north from Bloomington. I am going to leave it run this way for a few
days to see how it does. SWL reports regarding its tone are appreciated.
Also, if anyone has a 10 dB 222 gain stage, perhaps like the C106, etc, that
they want to part with, let me know. I would like to get the output power
level back up to the 30 watt range eventually. I only need the transmit side so
its even better if the preamp and/or relays don't work.

73, Jon
W0ZQ
