James,

Thank you for sharing that with us! I'm so glad you got on!
I've seen your posts on VHF-Contesting and am glad that you
are out there having fun with VHF and UHF.  It's ok to not
have all the bands at first. As you add bands, it gives you
a reason to go back and revisit earlier locations. 

Keep good notes of your locations (lat/lons) over the years
and other rovers may ask for some location hints if they
come into your area :-) .

I spent 4 years in Lubbock many years ago and had a great
time driving all over Eastern NM. I intend to come back some
day with the rover.  May not be many folks to work but the
drive will be beautiful.

I enjoyed reading your Soapbox and seeing your pictures.

Have fun in the Sept contest!
