Thanks for the info, Donn. Unfortunately, the 3001 signal generator
family appears to be quite different from the 2005 series sweep
generator. I did find manuals for a WaveTek 2001 and 2002 sweep
generator that appear to be models similar to my 2005, mainly with a
narrower frequency range (up to 2500 MHz instead of 4500 MHz), so I will
work with those for now. They were obtained from:
   www.artekmedia.com
who also sells on eBay. His manuals appear to be original scans, not
copies of freely downloadable stuff, like many of the eBay manual
vendors. And he is local and easy to work with. Dave (NR1DX/Ø) checked,
and had no manual for the 2005 sweep generator, but referred me to a
source that has the manual available to rent for $25/week. The folks at
www.yourmanualsource.com apparently sell a particular manual until they
are down to their last one of a particular item, and then rent the
original paper manual so they can continue to provide it to other users
who need it, without having to deal with any copyright issues. Though
the price seems quite fair, considering the hassle of mailing a printed
manual back and forth across the country, I probably won't take the
plunge immediately, since I would want to have some free time during my
week of rental to print and/or scan what I want from it.

As you doubtless know from working with aa4df in the past, and as I just
learned, a nice compilation of links to free manual sites can be found
at: http://home.comcast.net/~aa4df02/downloaded_manuals.htm

Right now, my unit has mechanical problems with both tuning knobs (the
start or center frequency, and the end frequency or sweep width) -- one
stripped gear and one missing gear -- so I need to figure out how to
deal with those things before I do much else with it. I did manage to
get it to generate RF from around 100 MHz to 4550 MHz with judicious
twiddling of the start frequency control from inside the unit, but
haven't gotten it to sweep a range of frequencies yet, partly due to
lack of a working control for that and partly because the front panel
control labels are not completely intuitive. (OK, because I didn't know
what I was doing. The 2001 and 2002 manuals will help there.) :)
