I have tried PSk-31, in the past, on 2m from Brainerd to Hastings.
It does work well for long distance, but is subject to lots of phase
distortion. There *will* be some lost characters.
I have even seen the doppler image of the track from a plane flying
over... is very strange to see on the water fall... but as you all know,
multipath, scatter, knife edge are all problems that will complicate
the VHF signals at such large distances...
2m PSK-31 is a bit less robust than it is on HF, but still is much better than
trying to pull a very weak voice out of the noise.
Sadly, I have no antennas up at this time due to recent roof work, so I can't
get on the air except for 2m mobile right now.
