Does the disk spin up?  If its still being detected by Bios and spinning up 
then get SpinRite 6.0 from www.grc.com and have at it.  It might take as 
much as a day or so depending on the disc size for it to do its job but i 
haven't had a drive yet, that still runs, that it couldn't recover enough to 
then use Norton Ghost or a similar program to dump the data off of it after 
SpinRite repaired it enough for the other software to be able to copy with 
the data.
