Hello all !! Well , First on a serious note - I really
did not know how much I missed having some real
aluminum in the air and how much I missed and enjoyed
contesting untill this weekend ....... Anyway , I
had fun up at grandma's with installing the 12 ele
long boom( 26 ft) on the silo , etc. It appears that
the turn out on the bands locally was not what I
expected ( or 'local' condx were "flat" ). I was
running my FT-897D barefoot into a 12 ele yagi up at
60 ft (on 144) and a 4 ele at 20 ft (on 50 ). My best
dx on 144 were DN94 to EN47 to EN21 ...On 6 meters ,
best DX was EM94 - FM06 areas...... Final tally was :
on 50 mhz - 44 QSO , 24 Grids and on 144 mhz - 53
QSO , 20 Grids. I had to shut down early (7pm ) due
to some close-in thunderstorms up there . Looking
forward , I do really miss the QRO as well as being
able to hear somewhat better ( I now have all the main
pieces for a GS35 1.5kw amp for 144 as well as have
multiple 0.30db NF preamps stashed for for 144 too. ).
It also appears that it will be ok to run some kind of
'effort' up at grandma's farm for Sept too...... I
want to say Thanks to everyone for the contest QSOs
and also Thanks to the rovers .
73, Ron Bergantzel KA0RYT (back at
home - EN34EW)
