I resent that (slightly). ;-)
We had the same request to open the hamfest at a later hour a couple
years ago. We discussed it and said we would keep it at 7AM since most
of the locals preferred to have the hamfest early enough that they could
come early and still have some morning left after a couple hours of
looking and buying. Nothing says you have to be in line and waiting at
6:45AM. If you get there at 8:30 you will still find buyers in a feeding
frenzy looking for fresh meat. Although sometimes it can be a little
hard to get setup if they are grabbing things out of your hands and
demanding you take their money as you unload..... Be prepared, have it
all priced the night before and have lots of $1, $5, and $10 bills when
you arrive..... :-)
We couldn't have had a better morning for the hamfest. Not a drop of
rain until after 3PM. I even have a bit of new sunburn..... I hope it is
as nice next year. We were better organized than last year, got the
sellers moving at 6:45 as they should. We could still have used another
couple ticket sellers for the buyers at bit before 6:45, but over-all it
was not too bad. We had help from several of the Miners' ARC guys to do
parking and traffic control, and that helped a lot. I hope everyone
enjoyed themselves and thanks for coming!
