Beware that the 706 at least through mkII is noted for putting out a full
power spike (even with throttled down power). This spike may not be in
later mkII models or the MkII-G (haven't researched it). I almost killed
the thermistor for my power meter because of it (glad I use input pads). I
was able to crank my 706mkII down to 1w and used a 20db pad. Even with a
full power spike, the input to the transverter never exceeds 100mw. My IF
is set for 1mw, but hitting it with a momentary extra spike should not
damage the input pad or mixer. You can use a small SMA transfer relay to
switch the pad if you have a common IF to minimize parts count.
FB and GL with Rovermania guys. The amount of activity you guys are
creating is commendable. The UHF contest is orphaned here in CA. The
records for CA in this contest are in the 3-5000 point range, pitiful.
