Clare,
There is interest picking up here in the Cities for Icom's D-STAR
technology. They have hsmm-like capability on 1.2 GHz with 128Kbps
(ISDN rates) and then msmm-like speeds on 2m and 70cm at 4800bps.
I know of at least one new system coming online shortly and others
are being proposed around town.
There is a mailing list at the bottom of the page here,
http://www.twinslan.org/clubinfo.html
where it is being discussed.
