Yeah, I've got one too and I do believe that "ugly" is the word all right.  
A rug beater gone mad.  Don't e-mail me and ask what a rug beater is either!
I was just thinking about disassembling it and cleaning it up so perhaps
I'll look into the SO-239/Stud Adaptor this time around.  Thanks Doug.
