I actually know a couple guys that work for UPS, though most of the time
they wouldn't admit it for fear of getting yelled at by unsatisfied
customers.

One of them was telling me about insurance claims and the handling of
damaged goods. He said if you had access to the dumpster behind their depot
one could have thousands of dollars worth of damaged goods for the asking.
Why? Because after they inspect the damaged item and the insurance claim is
paid they keep the damaged item and toss it out after sitting on the shelf
for a little while.

At least here i have only had one problem with a UPS claim, and that was
when i used one of their UPS Store locations, they wouldn't pay for a
damaged computer that was not only packaged in a computer box, but was also
then double boxed in another large double thickness wall cardboard box with
padding inbetween boxes.

Their excuse? Improper packaging! Hmm, and i used a box designed for
shipping a computer?

However, when i use the local UPS depot and their dropoff counter i never
have a problem. And i had two claims that they quickly paid after
inspecting the box and the item.

Scott
