This was my third UHF contest and I was hoping it was
going to be a good one. Mark AI0Z and I started for
the St Charles corner early Saturday morning and as we
got further south away from the Twin Cities, the rain
kept getting heavier and heavier. There were no
equipment problems the whole weekend so I am thankful
for that. Conditions on 432 were so bad in the
beginning that 222 became the band to listen to and to
try to get some attention. Since this was my first
full contest with 1296, I wasn't sure how that was
going to perform.
High lights
20 contacts on 1296 to 9 grids which included K2DRH
and KM0T.
Connecting up with W9FZ/R in EN55 for 2 bands.
Having all the equipment work like it was supposed to.
Discovering some new locations that work very well.
Working W0ZQ/R from all 7 grids on all three bands.
Low lights
Lots of rain.
Poor conditions on 432 on Saturday.
Did I mention it rained.
Not able to work K0AWU on 1296 even though we tried.
Even though we were wet most of Saturday, it was still
a lot of fun and this was my best UHF contest so far.
