Hi all;
I must add my comments to all those who stated the condx were the worst
they had heard in years, and activity was lower than normal in this
years sept VHF QSO party. I absolutely agree, and further state that
activity might actually have been normal, but seemed worse because you
couldn't hear or work many of the stations normally worked.
Saturday started a little slow, but picked up, though signals were
weaker than normal. Sunday was a little better in the AM, but going
south in the afternoon, got worse when trying to push through the
rainstorms. I did give a good effort on Saturday, slept that night, got
back on Sunday AM and was taking progressively longer breaks to watch
football and help the wife with some tasks by the afternoon.
High points; LOVE THEM ROVERS!!, I worked 9 (count em) 9 different rover
calls, several with MANY contacts. I heard W9FZ in en67 but was QRMed
when I called him, otherwise worked him on multiple bands from just
about all his other grid stops. (BTW, we should have tried 1296 in
some or your stops bruce)
Also did 4 bands with VE3AX, FN02, and had my first 2.3 gig QSOs, WB9SNR
and KC9BQA. My rover QSOs were 38% of my total QSOs, and pumped up the
grids worked. Surprising number of Qs and Grids on 1296 considering the
weather.
Low points; Lack of signals out of en33/34/35, probably band condx;
grouchy neighbor who called me an Sunday aft, claiming he was hearing me
on his satellite dish system; poor results on my marginal 903 system as
I missed several slam-dunk contacts on that band, which was extra-noisy;
50 meg very noisy to the east and southeast, which meant I could not
make out the ever-present scatter stations; lower perceived activity
levels.
Preliminary results;
Band QSO pts grids
50 65 65 20
144 106 106 30
222 58 116 24
432 82 164 28
903 6 18 5
1.2 25 75 15
2.3 2 8 2
Tot 344 552 124 68,448 pretty reasonable
considering.
Club; Badger Contesters
