Had a fun weekend playing radio. Operated a large part of the contest
from my home station in EN34, then did a little micro-microwave roving with
a few of the high bands on Sunday. As many have already reported,
conditions were not great, especially as you went up the bands. The high
bands were very January like with tons and tons of QSB. At times it was
tough just working across town. The lower bands were in better shape. My
6m rotator was stuck with that antenna pointing due east, so my usually low
6m score was even lower than usual. Also, my 2304 transverter is a bit
deaf and needs some trouble shooting. Highlights from the home station
were working W9FZ/R in three new grids on 902 and some fairly good 2m DX,
albeit it on weak CW. Lowlight was hearing W9FZ/R over in EN67 on 2m but
not being able to complete. I need EN67 & 57 on 222 and up and I was
looking forward to working a few new grids there .... next time Bruce !
The Sunday micro-microwave rove was damp, cool, but fun. Took along 5.7
and 10 gigs (my portable stuff) and operated from the Burnsville hill
(EN34) during the 1 pm activity hour and then from Stinson Blvd (EN35)
during the 7 pm activity hour. Best DX was from EN34 to K0AWU, EN37, on
10gig. Fun working Glen, KC0IYT/R, in EN24 from EN35 by simply turning the
dish and there he was.
Please make sure to send your logs in. Make sure you remember you club
affiliation. I hope to see many of you next weekend for the second
installment of the 10g & Up contest. Also, for those with any energy left,
the 2m Fall Sprint is Monday, Sept 18, then 222 is Tuesday, Sept 26, 432 is
Wednesday, Oct 4, the microwave sprint is Saturday Oct 14, and the 6m Fall
Sprint is Sat, Oct 21.
