Hi Gang,
Just read through some of the comments on the 144.200 topic.
I have contested in a long while... when I did I roved out
two a 4 corner grids and parked it for awhile then moved to another a
few hours later... Due to my set up involves driving over a rotor plate
on the ground with about 25 feet of masting. Which I used 6, 2 and 432
for the rove.
Now when I was was out there.... if I was able to get info.
on other rovers... then I would try to search them out. If I had no
luck... I would call "CQ contest" on lest say 144.210, 432.110 and
50.130 or 50.140. After not getting too much response I then would go
too 144.200 and 432.100 and 50.12.
Then by doing this..... I was able to make for contacts.
And if those were over crowded, Then I would state "If anyone want's to
get me... move up 10...." Or I just wait like any other pile-up and
take my turn.
Final point..... Like any thing else.... you go where
"they hang out" where every one monitors... esp. when your not getting
anywhere by calling CQ anywhere else in the band... These bands are not
like HF where you have more of a chance that some will hear you (world
wide)... On the VHF/UHF bands.... it's really the locals... SO..... this
is why I think most people hang around the 144.200 and others.
But if the contesters want to change the freq. where
everyone should hang out on... so be it. Then everyone will have to
know what the new freq. is and hang out on that new freq. for contests.
Take care,
Thomas

P.S. I haven't contested for a long time.... The one I did was the one
in Feb. if I remember right.
