Rovermania III, also known at the ARRL UHF contest, is the weekend of
August 4 and 5.    The contest is 222 and up, no six or two meters.
Its a 24 hour contest that runs from 1:00 pm Saturday to 1:00 pm Sunday.
With its 24 hr format, it leaves plenty of time during the weekend for the
honey-do list and for other family activities.

Over the last two years, the big push was to generate activity and to
win.   We did both.   This year, with all the activity around Central
States, the goal is to generate activity and to generate logs .... who
cares about winning.

What do we need to do to generate logs ?

First, for those stations with 222 and up capability, mark August 4 and
5 on your calendar and plan to get on and do some operating.

Second, who is up for some "local" roving ?   Who else besides W0ZQ/R plans
on roving ?   Roving can be as simple as grabbing your 432 rig and heading
to one of the close-by grid corners to activate four grids for a few hours
Saturday afternoon, or Sunday morning.    Roving can also be gonzo crazy as
we have seen from some of our local rovers.    I can tell you two things
about W0ZQ/R ; one is that I will definitely be out and about having
fun, and two that I will NOT be gonzo crazy this year .... I may actually
sleep.   We will also plan for a "10 GHz off of Downtown" activity time so
that all of you with 10 gigs can duck out of the house for an hour and work
a bunch of 10 gigs off of downtown.

In summary, mark August 4 and 5 on your calendar for Rovermania III and the
UHF contest.   Plan to get on, make a few contacts, and submit a log.   No
log is too small !   Our goal for this year is to generate activity and
logs.

73, Jon
W0ZQ/R
