Well never had any idea to participate in the June contest this year what with
work so busy, home projects, and helping out at the Hockey team golf outing on
Friday. Not to mention that my Ram truck was traded off in January and I had
no rover rack until late Saturday afternoon of the contest

Any way, mainly for practice I completed the rover rack for my new Toyota SUV
and put 8 bands together on Sunday. Had no idea about what went on with the
propagation on Saturday
sounds many of you had a great time!
My pieced together rover rack cost me $12 beyond the junk I had lying around and
fit the new vehicle just fine. It is light enough to lift up on the roof rack
with all antennas in place, and almost road ready for next time. Goal was to
see if my gear still worked and hand out some q’s which I accomplished in just
a few hours of operating. Only had time for 2 grids
so if we just worked in
’43 and ’44 you didn’t miss a thing. Filled out a few sheets of paper logs too
not much for DX - K8EB was loud here on 144 and 222 also had fun getting the 7
band sweep through 2304 with K2DRH. No Q’s on 10G although it was working and
brought along just in case. Always good to hear the familiar calls and great
to hear new ones too!
Operating from the smaller vehicle was really different but have to say that it
will work. Not sure if my personal schedule will allow it but won’t take much
to get ready for the UHF test this year.
Looking forward to seeing everyone next month
!

Matt
