Wouldn't it be something if we could hit the motherlode of great
propagation for a *third* time in a contesting season?? That would
just be too much to ask for, but I'd take it...... :) :)
I've been trying to think of the right way to say thanks for such an
outstanding event. My head is still spinning. This was my first time
to anything like this and the amount of information I've absorbed was
amazing. To get a chance to be around a few hundred like-minded
individuals (with a combined thousands of years of experience) is a
truly peak experience.
NLRS -- you did an absolutely amazing job. And I will proudly say
that I even got my breakfast within 20-25 minutes on Friday morning!!
Seriously, everything was just great. The audio/visual stuff with the
presentations and the Peter Island talk at the banquet was riveting.
Finally being able to see multiple rovermobiles up close and personal
was a buzz. And to show you just how good a time I was having I
think I need to tell yet another little story.
After a good hour or two in that hot sun Friday morning, I saw a
fellow who was asking Glen KC0IYT some 10 gig questions. Glen
enthusiastically and patiently showed various aspects of his dish and
setup. He explained about the rain/hailscatter and the 10 gig contest
and various rover ops so well that I actually started thinking about ...
GASP ... maybe getting a dish in a few years time. If you knew where
I stood on 10 gig a few years ago, you would know this is big for me.
Perhaps I can make it a quid pro quo thing --- I have to achieve a
certain amount of NLRS contacts on the more conventional bands
that most of us enjoy before I will move forward on 10 gig.
I say all that with a smile and I hope it's taken in that vein. I
know
NLRS is far more than a 10 gig club, but it is amazing how many of
you have caught that fever. I will continue to read the 10 gig writeups
and see where it takes me over the next year or two.
So from the Wisconsin side, I just want to say a big THANKS to
everyone who helped with the conference. This also includes the
Chippewa Valley VHF guys, who basically ran the hospitality suite
the whole time. It's a darn good thing we had Charlie, Dave, Chris,
Al, Ray, Scott and John who were so generous with the beverages
and snacks. Oh and great work on the posters with the pictures of
your shacks and antennas. It really spiffed up the room.
Thanks again, everyone. And oh yes, a special thanks to Gary --
W0GHZ for the great help you gave me. If the 2304 gear gets out
half as good as it looks, I will be very pleased.
73 to everyone,
Todd KC9BQA EN63ao 50, 144, 222, 432, 903, 1296 & 2304
