Here's what it looks like my plans are for the January VHF+ contest.
I'm planning a relaxing 7 grid rove, with options for 8 and 9 grids.
I plan to be on 144.230 and 432.130.
I plan to be 100% battery operated, and only power up the transverters when
they are needed. My idle current draw for the transverters and it's IF rig is
2.5A and that is a substantial load on the battery.
I've scheduled 90 or 120 minutes per grid. I will monitor the two freqencies
for the first 45-60 minutes; after that I'm going to be hunt-and-pounce. I'll
try to keep an ear on one of those frequencies all the time, but no
guarantees.
My transportable antenna farm currently looks like:
6m 100W + dipole
144 175W + 3el
222 5W + 4el yagi (MAYBE)
432 35W + 11el yagi
902 ~9W + 9el WA5VJB
1296 3W + 23el loop yagi
2304 30W + 27el loop yagi
3456 40W + 45el loop yagi
10G 2W + 18"dish
My 222 is a "maybe" because I was modifying it for PTT over
the coax, like my other transverters, and now it's not hearing
The Beacon. For a while it wasn't putting out RF, either.

At that point, I'll pick one of 3 options: head home, head for

[1] I hope to find a spot where roads let me park near the 45 degree grid
line, a few miles south of Cokato. This is west of Winsted, where I've
operated before, but hopefully will have as good or better terrain. As a
fall-back plan if I don't find spots or they seem to be non-productive, I'll
use the old spots:
Winsted EN24xw
Howard Lake EN25wb
I hope to hear lots of you during the contest!

Glen, KC0IYT
