...hmmm, good questions Mike.   I think it depends on how  much you want to 
spend and when you want to spent it.    I would  say that state of the art is 
high performance transverters feeding a high  quality IF rig (perhaps a SDR, 
perhaps a Orion, etc).    That  would be nice.  

At the same time, you have some good equipment now.  Putting $ 375 down for a 
222 module gets you a new band,  pronto.   A lot of people have worked lots 
of DX on 222 with just such  a station ; its no slouch.   

So it all depends on when it is  that you want to embark on the (long ? 
costly ?) road to a higher capability  station.    Perhaps a moderate investment 
now gets you 222 and  some feedline/antenna improvements.   On the other hand, 
if you won  the lottery, go for it.
