The site in Loch Ness Park is called Garbage Hill. I am told that it is what
it says, an old garbage (landfill) site. There are good views is various
directions, trees are the limiting factor. If you move around enough you can
find an opening. You can drive to the top but you need to get permission first.
When I was there, a few years ago, the road was only paved part way up the
hill. Mike, KBØTZA, told me that the Anoka Radio Club has used the site for
field day.

Jon,

There is about a 30 ft hill on the north end of Loch Ness park in Blaine
(may be an old landfill?). The surrounding area is reasonably flat, and it has
pretty good views to the west. This is off of Lexington Ave. just north of
35W. I don't know how accessible it is in the winter. I was up there last
summer and it seemed like a reasonable spot for vhf/uhf activity, but I haven't
tried it out myself yet.

The best spot in Ramsey Co. would be the big hill in the old army ammunition
plant off Lexington and 96, but I don't think that is available to the
public.

As for the VHF contest, I will get on from the highly-sought-after EN35 grid
on 2 meters. Have to see if I can get the 6 meter antenna up again with all
the ice and snow. 70 cm is still up, but was fairly deaf in the last
contest. I think I need either a pre-amp or better coax (RG6 seems to have too
much attenuation). All antennas are omni now. If it's nice weather I could get
out with the 2/70 arrow handheld beam, but then I am limited to QRP with the
FT817. Hope to get something directional up next summer.

Mark KI0DI
