Last year a number of NLRS members participated in the San Bernardino
Microwave Society (SBMS) 2 GHz and Up Contest. This contest is basically a copy
the ARRL's 10 GHz and Up contest, except its allows the use of bands from 2304
and up. Also, this is a club aggregate scoring competition only where all
individual scores are combined.
This year the SBMS has schedule the contest for April 29 and 30. This
directly collides with Aurora which is April 29.
There was some discussion that we could encourage people to bring their
microwave equipment to Au'06 and we could capitalize on the 100 points per
unique, but the rules state that all contacts need to be over 1 km. In addition,
we will be busy enough with the antenna range, flea market, presentations,
and socializing. That said, given that there will be lots of microwavers
present, if someone wants to make some contacts for the contest at Aurora,
please do, just remember the 1 km rule.
So in conclusion, if we do any significant playing as a club in this
contest, it will probably be more on Sunday. As the date gets closer, perhaps we
can schedule a Sunday activity time.
