Hello NLRS land. Two piece of information for you.
1. As many of you may be aware, the ARRL maintains a Contest Advisory
Committee (CAC) that from time to time provides input to the League on issue
concerning contesting. Recently the League realized that many of the issues and
discussions concerning VHF/UHF contesting are, well, rather unique to VHF/UHF
so a second VHF/UHF contest advisory committee is being created. I have
been asked by Jay, and have accepted, to represent the Dakota Division on this
committee. The VHF/UHF committee is still in its infancy stage and is just
now starting to be formed. I believe that the realization that VHF/UHF
contesting has its own unique set of issues is a forward step by the League and
I look forward in serving in the capacity of your VHF CAC representative.
2. Al Dewey, K0AD, is our Dakota Division (HF) CAC representative. As
the VHF CAC is still forming, the League has asked its current (HF) CAC
members the following question :
"Is your club satisfied with the scoring system (calculation of the final
club score) for the Affiliated Club competition? If not, please let me know of
your specific concerns and include examples, if possible."
If you have some thoughts on this subject, please email them to Al, K0AD, at
Aldewey at aol.com and please CC: me. One subject that may be applicable for
discussion is how rover scores are counted .... for example an issue that has
not happened yet, but will, is when one of these grid circling one-million
point rovers puts down an affiliated club .... so far they have not done that.
Another hassle factor for rovers is keeping track of QSOs that are inside
versus outside of the clubs service area.
Please give this some consideration and send your thoughts to Al, and CC: me.
Questions/comments welcomed.
73, Jon
