[NLRS] Re: Log Checking Reports for VHF Contests

Hey gang,

I sort of understand what happened with Gary and Bob...it IS difficult to
coordinate/compare/contrast fixed station logs versus rover logs when under
the same call and, apparently, an even BIGGER challenge for the robot to
accept them (or is it JUST to have the robot realize the difference between
a "/R" suffix or not in the "My Call" column combined with the challenge of
the other station not having to be TOO careful about whether they log a
rover station that they work WITH or withOUT the "/R" in the "Station
Worked" column of THEIR log). Didn't Jon, W0ZQ, have a similar 'experience'
with his January entry?

I DON'T think that is what happened with me and maybe not with Glen (unless
I worked someone who roved while they were at home so their rover logs
didn't show my call and they didn't submit a log for home operation).

To Jerry's question...as far as I know, they are NOT stripping out contacts
where the other station does not submit ANY log...the presumption IS of
'innocence' (why does that not look to be spelled correctly?) when a call
sign appears in a submitted log but the station worked does not submit a
log. If the station worked DOES submit a log, and a contact IS claimed that
is NOT in the other log, THEN, the 'claimer' WILL lose that contact.

It is my further understanding that some checking for calls from
'non-submitted' logs IS done in the CQ WW DX contests; they call their
reports "UBN" for Unique, Busted and NIL (Not In Log). I believe there is a
point at which the "commisioners" of those contests start to question if
there are is a high percentage Unique stations worked in a station's log but
they are not arbitrarily removed (they *may* ultimately be removed, though).
If the callsign of the non-submitted log appears in more than one submitted
log (or maybe there is a threshold higher than 1 other), then it is not
unique (or the cheaters must have collaberated ;-( ).

And it's not always dishonesty...while I suspect there *are* cases of
dishonesty, there are also legitimate mistakes (and MORE of these than
dishonesty, I would hope) where station 1 thinks they were working station 2
yet station 2 was working station 3 and it just happened to coincide with
timing that the "R"s or "QSL"s or Rogers made station 1 think that station 2
was confirming with them, station 1, rather than station 3, who station 2
was really confirming with...maybe station 2 did not repeat the call of
station 3 later in the exchange and/or maybe station 1 was digging station 2
from right at the noise floor of his station so wasn't able to copy
everything perfectly. These and similar situations DO occur.

MY question is more toward whether "we" want to push to have the Log
Checking Reports made available to us for VHF Contests. Shouldn't be an
issue for the casual folks and even though my scores are typically not in
the top ranges...I just want to know what were the actual errors that I
made. Do others feel the same? Is this an issue that anyone (besides me)
wants to 'push'?

73, JK
