Looking at the 5.8 GHz antennas offered by HyperLink Technologies
_http://www.hyperlinktech.com/web/antennas_5800.php_
(http://www.hyperlinktech.com/web/antennas_5800.php) , the following antennas look to be of interest:
1. HG5817D. 17 dBi of gain from a small 9.7" x 2.2" deep backscatter
design. Weights only two lbs. Cost $36.
2. HG5833G. 22 dBi of gain from a 11.8" x 15.7" grid design. Weight only 3
lbs, cost $50.
3. HG5827G. 27 dBi of gain from a 15.7" x 23.6" grid design. Weight 5.3
lbs, cost $53.
They also offer three dish models, 24 dBi (17.2"), 29 dBi (23.6"), and 32.5
dBi (35.4") at a cost of $120, $150, and $220 with higher weight and higher
windload.
Because my interest on this band is for roving, my interest is to maximize
gain while minimizing cost, weight, and wind load. Compromise is the name of
the game. As such the two grid design models are looking interesting,
particularly the 27 dBi gain version .... or perhaps the 22 dBi gain version that
could be mounted on top of my existing 10 GHz system thus using the same IF
rig, but detachable for when its 10 GHz only. On 5760 in the past I have
had fair success with 200mw and a 13 dB horn, then good success with 2 watts
and a 17 dB horn, so 2 watts and either 22 or 27 dBi should be workable.
All of these antennas appear to come complete, can be mounted for vertical
or horizontal polarization, and have a female N-connector.
I have no experience with this company or their products. Anyone have any
input ?
They do require a minimum order of $100. If anyone else is interested in
buying something from them, drop me a note and I will look at generating a
"group" buy.
