This STARTED in Australia and Leno picked it up. There was also a thread on
the QRZ.COM discussion boards.

"Morse Code SMS"). Apparently the 93-year-old 'winner' only had to send at
about 15 wpm to win the race and sent full text whereas the teenager was
using text 'shortcuts' where she could. She sent 91 characters and spaces,
the Morse Code message was 107 characters and spaces (though would count out
at 111 with commas counting as two characters and a trailing period). Having
to enter the text on a numeric keypad was really a handicap.

I wonder if a Blackberry or Treo with their miniaturized but 'full' keyboard
would have done better.
