Well it was an interesting weekend. Worked pretty late friday getting the gear
ready - decided to build an IF switch box last minute and finally mounted my
3.4 40W amp in a nice box. Was almost ready to pull out when I realized that
the 2.3 xverter had the wrong PTT for the IF rig I was using - one small
problem led to another so I ended up almost 2 hours late on saturday after some
quality time with a soldering pencil on the tailgate of the rover!
Good news was that Jon 'ZQ hung around long enough and I also found W0GHZ and
N0KP. With all my 2 bands working and the snow flying I managed 6 q's pretty
fast from EN43.
Was bothered by the 10 mi rule since I rove in some rolling terrain and my
usual
spots are much closer together - knew it would be a challenge.
Had hoped to get some more later saturday afternoon - but that didn't work out.
Day two ended up being pretty fun - Clare, K0NY had my backup 1W 3.4 xverter
and
we managed to work from 4 locations. Met Gary 'GHZ again as well for 8 more
Q's (TNX Gary!). Best DX was 'KP at 173km on 2.3 and 3.4.
So highlights:
All my stuff worked - new PTT switch was great
Jon loud from EN34hl - we worked SSB both bands!
In spite of the 10 mi rule - found a couple of nice new spots to operate from
Gary loud for the last Q - one of the longer DX contacts as well!
Being able to particate in an event without any 10G gear at the moment
Scoring for me:
18Q's (7 on 2.3) (11 on 3.4)
400 unique
2236 DX
2636 Total
My goal was really to get ready for next weekend - did that - had some fun and
the WX was too lousy to do anything else.
TNX for the bandwidth - see you next weekend
73,
Matt
