[NLRS] Rovermania: Reaching out to others to generate growth

Adding to the discussion. I think most rovers have a grip (or continue to
work on) being efficient for the fixed stations too. As a rover, I
appreciate fixed ops who have many bands. Once I'm pointed at them, say
K2YAZ for instance, it's wonderful to carry him up through the bands. I
want to finish him up so that he can go looking in other directions. To be
sure, I love having stations call me off the side on 2, 222, and 432
because that saves me having to turn and point at them. If they hear me, I
hear them. At 903 and above, I "have" to turn and point. So if I'm
finishing a guy up on the high bands in one direction, it will be
(hopefully just a few) minutes before I can turn to the new direction to
get the high bands with others.

I'm not really adding anything new here--just that the respect DOES go both
ways. That's why I think we have such a good situation in the upper
midwest.

There is a philosophical difference among big fixed stations however.
There is a big fixed station in northern Illinois who refuses to look for
rovers. Their take is that if the rover wants the Q, the rover will come
find them CQ'ing their lungs out. Guess who I don't go looking for very
often. I REALLY APPRECIATE fixed stations who make it a point to
aggressively look around the band for rovers and all the DX they can find.
Hopefully they are rewarded for their efforts with Q's and grids.

So appreciation and respect runs BOTH ways.

Also, before RMII, and before Sept VHF, lets discuss further ways that
widely separated fixed stations can be brought together by rover activity
at the midpoint that both hear. The rover can direct interested parties
"up 10" lets say.

I'm about to make a posting asking for thoughts on the TC- Milwaukee path.
Relatedly, NLRS has "created" their activity so well in the south and west
directions (via rovers) that I wonder if fixed stations look E and SE as
much as they used to??? Thoughts? (we can retitle this thread if you
wish)
