I had a chance to check out the 4 corners NW of Menomonie, WI but I think
I'll pass on these locations. Too many hills and trees for my taste but what
lovely countryside. Thanks to everyone for the location information. It was
very helpful.
I'll be using the Northwest calling frequency again 144.245 MHz for most of
my calling/operating. Occasionally I will be calling on 144.200 and inviting
you to QSY to 144.245. Sorry, no contacts will be run on 144.200!
The goal for this weekend is to check out the equipment and scout out more
good stopping locations for use during August and September. I'll follow a
route similar to last Sept. as follows:
EN25, 26, 35 and 36 ENE of Pierz, MN
EN35 and 34 in Minneapolis
EN25 and 24 near Winsted, MN
EN23 and 33 South of Mankato, MN
EN13 East of Woodstock, MN
EN14 and EN15 East of Madison, MN
EN16, 26, 15 and 25 near Elbow Lake, MN
Note there are some duplicate grids as I'm looking for good locations near
some of the 4 corners locations.
My time line will be variable so monitor my calling frequency for further
details as the plan develops.
At this point it looks like I'll have the following bands up and running (in
some fashion):
50 MHz, 250W into a pair of stacked Moxon antennas at 18 and 29'
144 MHz, 250W into an LPDA at 24'
222 MHz, 150W into an LPDA at 24'
432 MHz, 150W into an LPDA at 24'
902 MHz, 50W into a 5' looper at 12'
1296 MHz, 40W into a 5' looper at 12'
2304 MHz, 15W into a 5' looper at 14'
3456 MHz, 40W into a 4' looper at 14'
5.7 GHz, 200mw into a 2' dish on a wobbly tripod therefore I'll only be
trying local contacts
10 GHz, 200mw into a 2' dish on a wobbly camera tripod therefore I'll only
be trying local contacts
At this point (late Thursday evening) I'm still integrating the looper band
IF transceiver, all coax feedlines, computer stuff and AC/DC power,
batteries and AC power generator.
I hope to get out of the starting gate on time (for a change)!
Good luck to all of the other rovers. I hope I can give out some remote
grids to everyone.
73, Jim
