Last night, around 5:30 pm or so, I worked W0LMS and N0UK on 10gigs local
snow scatter. I had my portable dish system set up in the garage pointing out
the open garage door. I found W0LMS first and we worked with 55s signals
on CW, then N0UK tail ended. I then listen to Chris call for Russ and
discovered that my dish was peaked up on a side lobe and after repeaking found him
at 59s where we then made a SSB aurora like contact. My dish elevation
was 20 degrees up and the azimuth bearing was true (once I figured out which
way north was !). No spectacular DX as both guys live about 5 to 6 miles
away, but its a totally obstructed path and the first time we've worked from
home-to-home.
Some fair aurora on the low bands last night too with activity on both 6m
and 2m where I picked up a couple of new States. Too bad all this happened
24 hrs too early !
Good luck to everyone in the contest this weekend.
