Hello NLRS land.
Do you "old timers" remember what VHF and VHF contesting was like around here before the NLRS ? Things were pretty sparse huh. Then a core group of Op's got the idea of a club, got the ball rolling, the idea matured and grew, and here we are today with a very active group. Take a look through some old QSTs to see what VHF scores looked like ten years ago.
With that perspective in mind, I find it very exciting that there are now not just one but TWO weak signal VHF clubs in our area. The NLRS guys over in EN44 have started up the Chippewa Valley VHF Contesters. Charlie, N0AKC is the club president and their club call sign is K9CVC.
Of course being a member of one club does not exclude you from being a member of another club. Its our desire that the CVC club members continue on as valued NLRS members too. At the same time we recognize their desire to submit logs for their local club.
So this is a good news, bad news story. The good news is that we continue to see growth in VHF and VHF contesting in our area. Heck, we have TWO clubs where once we had none. The bad news is that without the EN44 guys we can expect our NLRS aggregate contest scores to suffer and our goal to reach the Unlimited class will be a bit tougher.
In closing, I want to extend a welcoming hand to the Chippewa Valley VHF Contesters. Personally I find these signs of growth exciting and I do believe that it is good for VHFing overall.
73, Jon
