Rich,

Thanks for your work on this!

I remember back in about 1988 or 1989, while I was in EN-17, working you
as a Rover in western Minnesota. I would CQ my lungs out from North
Dakota for the entire contest and once or twice during the weekend
conditions would improve enough to work into the Twin Cities and work
WB0GGM, W0GHZ (then known as WA0BWE), and a few others. You encouraged
me to come on down to the Twin Cities for Aurora.

About that time you started your Upper Midwest VHF Newsletter. It was
that newsletter that really helped tie the region together around VHF
weak-signal work. Sure, the AU gatherings, and the formation of the
NLRS were key too. But your newsletter was a key piece of how Upper
Midwest VHF activity got to the state it is today. Times have changed
and the newsletter is no longer needed. I want to thank you for putting
out that newsletter for all those years--we are where we are today
thanks to your efforts.

I share this because some of our current members weren't around for your
newsletter and its upbeat prompt for activity--both in and out of
contests. The Upper Midwest has been turning heads for over 15 years
now thanks to your energy.
