Hi Jon and All,
There are several locations such as Mt. Coolidge or equivelant in
the Black Hills. I have operated on vhf contests from most of them over
the years. Unfortunately there are very few hams in SD. On 10g the
closest station to the east is KM0T which is roughly 365 miles away..
All in all the operating locations are beautiful but at the end of the
day you don't fill very many log pages unless you get a good opening on
six.. Two meter contacts usually run about 20 or so and about 6 to 12 on
432.. Not too impressive you say! Well it is still a lot of fun and
each contact is cherished.. Besides campsite cowboy coffee sure tastes
good... 73,
Al

Those who like to play with RadioMobile, take a look at the shot going
east
from Mount Coolidge in the Black Hills, SDak. The coordinates are 43°
44'
42"N, 103° 28' 53"W (DN83gr) . There is a road to the top with a
wonderful
vista to the east. The elevation is just over 6000 feet.
The Badlands, at about 2800 feet to the east, are easily visible at
about 60
miles. And there is barely a tree west of the Missouri River !
Fun to think about. 10gigs ?
73, Jon
