Be a bit patient.   I know a fella that was at the survey supply company auction last fall and he bought about two dozen beautiful tripods used for mounting surveyor transits, lasers, mirrors, etc.  These are extremely stable tripods that can be stepped into the ground and adjusted ad infinitum.

When this thread first hit, I fired off an email to him to get Quantity and price info.  But I think he's at Dayton.  So be patient.
