Greetings all
Have been doing some further experiments with various 39ghz converters
at 47ghz. So far, best DX is across the work room but 1km is the
next target. One thing I have been keeping track of is the efforts
of hams in Colorado and San Diego to build up mixers for 47 using
diodes from scrap 14ghz rf boards. Last night I decided to build
up a harmonic mixer. Took a 4 hole flange mount sma connector and
a short .085 hardline with sma male from the junk box. Drilled
a tiny hole in the sma flange near the threads. Then soldered the
.085 to the side of the flange - the flange sma is for LO in, the
.085 is for the IF.
Then carefully unsoldered two matched diodes from a scrap Qualcomm
14ghz mixer board and soldered them anti-parallel style to the flange
center conductor and the flange. Last step was to take a small wire
and solder to the .085 centor conductor, pass through the flange
and solder to the center pin of the flange with the two diodes.
The LO was 20dbm of 12.096 ghz, IF was 1296 in wbfm mode. The test
signal was a 47ghz gunn source. IT WORKED! One hour of work,
a handful of parts from the junk box, and I ended up with a
harmonic mixer for 47ghz. This is a very doable project - see the
following url for design info:

OK, I did have a 12ghz brick and a 47ghz source but the brick you
can find on EPay, and for the source, build up two such mixers - one
to act as a harmonic multiplier and the other as the harmonic mixer.
