I have a 251 with the split T/R. The receive connection at the junction of
C202 and R194 was rerouted to J11 and the connection to the three diodes was
routed to J12. I don't use a split IF so I just have a jumper between J11
and J12.
As for power, I use a 30 dB attenuator since my 903 transverter can use up
to a watt. You might try pulling the driver final plug and see what output
you get.
If you were to go to the attenuator route, get a 3 dB and a 30 dB 5 watt
attenuator from MiniCircuits. These units are rated for 5 w continuous.
Use the 3 dB unit directly out of the transmitter, then the 30 dB unit from
the 3dB to the transverter. In this configuration the 5 watt rating is not
exceeded for either unit, especially considering SSB average power. This
attenuator configuration is very common in radar testing and other high
power systems.
