Hello, everyone.
The NLRS web site has recently been moved to a new server, and our
host, Kevin Uhlir (N0BEL) has taken over the domain name nlrs.org for
this purpose. On the new server, things are set up slightly differently
than they were in the past.
On the old server, URL's referring to nlrs.org were simply redirected
to nlrs.dropboxone.net to get to the actual web server, but now the
DNS (domain name server) associates the nlrs.org domain name with the
actual server.
Functionally, the main difference is that if you have any references
to nlrs.dropboxone.net in "favorites" or "shortcuts", or on web pages
that you maintain, these should be changed to www.nlrs.org instead.
From this point forward, if any more server changes are needed, it
should be completely transparent to the end users, and only the
webmasters will be required to do anything different.
Since NLRS was the last "customer" using Kevin's old server, he didn't
"pull the plug" on it until we were successfully moved. But now that
we are on the new machine, it will be only a matter of time before the
old nlrs.dropboxone.net name stops working.
By the way, although the old server is still operational as of the
time of this posting, I have been putting the updates only on the new
machine, so if you want the most current information, you should
start using the "official" URL immediately:
http://www.nlrs.org
If you have any doubt if you are on the old machine or the new one,
simply check the "Last Edited" date just below the club logo. On
the old server, the date is 2004-02-21, but on the new server, the
date will show as today (2004-03-07) or later.
Many thanks to Kevin and his company, Flo-Chart Software Systems Inc,,
for providing the web presence for the Northern Lights Radio Society.
