I *really* had a ball! Except for something that popped up early on =
Saturday, I operated the entire contest.
The only part I feel regret about is not being able to follow through =
on my detailed plans for contacting the U.P., Minnesota and Iowa. I =
have some reasons, but all the same, I don't like not doing what I say I =
will. =20
The biggest reason was that I made a dim-witted move, picking 144.170 =
as my calling N and NW frequency. The K0PG and K9ILT rover team uses =
that as their frequency and I sure didn't want to make life more =
difficult for them. And by the time Sunday rolled around, I hardly ever =
seemed to hear acitivity far away from 144.200. I called CQ much, much =
more on Sunday but I tried to stay near 144.200.
The only consistent amount of RF I sent to the NW, W and SW was near =
the call freq. on 6 and 2 on Sunday afternoon and evening. And most of =
my CQ's were intercepted by folks who must have been hearing me off the =
side. Then I'd go off to work them on the other bands, and then I'd run =
into other people and I'd get off track again. To those of you who =
tried to listen and work me during my (alleged) schedules, I apologize. =
Perhaps it wasn't wise of me to be so specific. =20
I had pretty much figured I would get EN37, 36, 35, 33 and 32 in my =
log. I don't know if there's much activity in EN46, 45, 55, 56 or 66, =
but it escaped me on all bands. OK, I had one aurora Q on 6 with N0VZJ =
on Sat. evening. But I missed the bulk of the aurora, somehow. I *did* =
get out to EN31 and EM39 on 144, but that was about it. =20
I'd be curious to hear from some of you VHF'ers about how well you =
worked to the E and SE. Were conditions just that lousy? Did you have =
a period where there was at least a little enhancement on 50, 144 and =
432?
I have lots to learn, but I really enjoyed myself. Time just seemed =
to fly. Can't wait for June and I'm also intrigued by this Minnesota =
QSO party that is coming up. If all I have to work is Minnesota, hey, =
then I won't get so distracted!
