[NLRS] Contest conditions??

Well, mine sure haven't fallen apart. I have seen some antennas that
wouldn't stand up to a Minnesota winter but these work fine. I would LOVE
to have a Yagi up at 20 - 40 ft, but that's nothing more than a dream for
me. I got both the 6m and 2m loop as a set for $50 and they have server me
well. Unfortunately I have to MAJOR problems with putting up a beam of any
kind.
1. I rent my home, no damage or changes can be made to the roof or the
property without full prior approval of the owner, and I'm lucky to have
what I do now.
2. My house is surrounded by old growth trees, to emphasize how large these
trees are, the house and the entire corner lot receive no direct sunlight
during the summer months!!
Nope, beams are not possible. I would require a 100ft tower to even peak
over the trees, more like 150ft to sufficiently clear them for beams to
rotate. It sucks, but there is nothing I can do about it, family and life
have to come first. Maybe I will get the chance to own a tower and some
beams when I get my own home, but that will be a while. Until then, any
Rhode Island or Alaskan 6m ops watch for me during the openings.

The loops ( dipoles ) work ok for e's and fall apart in the dead of
winter, for long haul ground wave ,aurora and in the f2 season, for the
same amount of money pick up a used or new 3,4,5, el beam. at 20 to 40 ft
this will get you the weak ones!! I have been on 6m over 40ty years and
beams are the only way to go. I used a vert and 100w for fun durring the
last f2 cycle and did work all continents and 18 countrys but you only work
the strong one's and the one's that are weak just are not there on
dipoles/vert.

The same antennas that I have always used, Par Electronics loops. I
have
worked and confirmed 48 states this year on 6 using my loop, Alaska and
Rhode Island are the only ones remaining after getting Hawaii on Oct
30th
with that great Au opening.
Anyway, went to bed early after listening to static all evening,
although I
did hear a few desperate CW ops calling CQ and one SSB sig on 50.125
just
after midnight. Six and two are dead here this afternoon again, oh
well, I
got other things I could be doing. If its one thing I learned with 6m,
its
patience waiting for an opening.

Haven't heard diddly on the air tonight. Starting thinking it was
something
wrong on my end so I visually inspected everything from the radio to
the
antenna and made a contact with a local on 6m. Not very good
conditions
tonight unfortunately.
There was a lot of reports on the 50MHz reflector that Bermuda was
on 6
tonight and loud into the east coast. A lot of NY and NJ 6m ops
snagged
him. Anyway, I will be up for a couple hours longer than I'm
calling it
quits until sometime tomorrow afternoon.

PS: So far this contest I have 2 contacts on 6, 1 contact on 2, and
1
contact on 70cm, not a record breaker here, HI HI!
