Regarding my previous posting for a mass NLRS rover effort for the Aug'04
UHF contest I have had favorable feedback and interest from a number of
Op's already. I will be putting a list together of those who have
responded so far and what bands they may have to rove with.
As a refinement to my previous posting, let me make it clear, that the
intent of this effort is three fold. First its to generate a large score
for ALL fixed stations in order to challenge for a first place finish
nationally. Second, its to generate activity for the UHF contest (which
was down last year). Third, its intended as a shakeout run for those who
will be participating in the first weekend of the 10 GHz contest that
follows two weeks later. (OK, and the fourth reason is to have some fun
too). I've also received some comments that this may be a good
opportunity to complete some micrwave VUCCs too.
I have no intent whatsoever in locking out other fixed stations who may be
on and operating. My mantra is if I hear them, I work them (and sometimes
when I can't hear them I still work them). By roving through central and
southern MN we should be able to work KM0T, the Twin Cities fixed stations,
other fixed stations, and other rovers. If I hear them, I work them.
With respect to roving during this contest, my initial thought was to rove
in teams of two or three rovers to lend mutual support but to be able to
work other rover (teams) as well. In addition, this may be a good
opportunity for those who have not tried roving before and who may be
interested in trying it to pair up with someone who is more experienced.
It would also be a good opportunity for someone who wants to see what 10
GHz portable operation is like to pair up with a 10 GHz rover.
Again, all this is preliminary and up for discussion. If you have an
interest in roving during the '04 UHF contest (even if its with just one
band and/or a couple of grids), drop me a note.
