Has anyone looked at the folks on the committee? Other than Mike everyone
lives near high population bases. (Living and operating in 0 land is much
different that the rest of the country as most of us realize.)
I am not sure that the proposed rules changes rule changes are going to have
the impact that we are looking for in the hobby.
1. As someone that currently roves and tries to support my home club I want
my score to be part of the NLRS. If my score was not part of the club I
would seriously consider driving to another part of country where there is a
larger population base or not roving at all. I like working the rural areas
in our club's coverage area but it is not always the friendliest of areas to
operate from. (Does anyone think that EN46 is good rover territory?)
2. If the point system is changed related to frequency there is little
incentive to move to the high bands. There is not enough non-contest
activity to justify the amount of money that we invest in building out the
higher bands. K0AWU covered this very well.
3. If this is the approach to bands, clubs, roving, and awards that we are
see moving forward I am not sure that I am going to put any more money into
it. I would seriously reassess my interests and my focus in the hobby. Under
the proposed plan I suspect that I would not buy and add higher bands other
than maybe 10 GHz which would be used for non contest related activities. I
suspect that my interest in VHF and up contests will become marginal at
best. This is the exact opposite result that we are looking for.
I am not sure why such sweeping changes are being made. I am not opposed to
the changes but it would seem like constant & gradual change would make more
sense then massive change all at once. Improvement should be an on-going
process because some things will work well while other things will not. It
is hard to evaluate the process when everything changes at the same time.
