Gary, thanks for forwarding the long email from K1KI and the MSC VHF-UHF
Contest & Awards Subcommittee. Those who attended Au'03 may remember Mike, KM0T,
providing us with a brief status update on the subcommittee's work.
After reading through this proposal (three times) I've been pondering how
best to respond.
First of all I think it is very important that we as individual VHFers let
the subcommittee know how we feel about their proposal. I highly encourage all
VHF operators, NLRS members or not, to review this proposal and to provide
feedback to them at [email protected] by their requested deadline
of March 7th. They have asked to hear from us and we should honor their
request and be heard. In your individual responses, please remember that these
guys are volunteers who have invested a lot of their time to find answers to
hard questions.

Secondly I've been pondering if we should respond as a club, and if so, what
that response should be. I have concerns about this .... on the one hand the
subcommittees proposal, if endorsed by the ARRL, will have a major impact to
all VHF/UHF and microwave contesting including the EME and the 10 GHz contests
and its seems that our voice should be heard in this process. On the other
hand the proposal is long, somewhat complicated, possibly radical to some,
and I wonder if we as a club of many members can reach a common response or if
it would cause division within the ranks .... this is additionally tempered by
the fact that the NLRS is more than a VHF contesting club (we would exist with
or without contesting).

In summary, I greatly encourage all VHFers to read the proposed changes and
forward their opinions, pro or con, to the subcommittee at the email address
above.

Secondly I would like to hear from NLRS club members as to if we should
respond to this proposal as a club, perhaps with a letter from the NLRS. As club
president, please respond to me directly and indicate
1. if you think we should respond as a club or not,
2. if you endorse the proposal, oppose it, accept it in part, and/or what
our response should state.

After getting a pulse from the club I'll report back to the club on my
findings and suggested actions. Unfortunately the requested response date of March
7th is before our club meeting at Au'04.

73, Jon
W0ZQ
