Hello All,
I am trying to troubleshoot a problem with receiving TV audio on 6 meters and am looking for some suggestions. The audio is at 50.255MHz and is S9+60 when I point my beam due South, and about S9+40 when North. To the East and West I am not experiencing the problem. It appears to be our local CBS station which broadcasts on channel 3. I am also able to find the same signal at lesser strength in several other spots outside of the 6 meter band.
The signal is very wide and is causing interference all the way down to 50.125MHz, pretty much wiping out any possibility of working stations in the Twin Cities or even AU. When I turn on the attenuator, it completely disappears, so I am guessing this is either a cable leak or possibly a signal amplifier at a home nearby.
My cable company came out today and checked the block around my house for signal leaks, and even replaced my cable to ensure that it is not something coming from my own home, but this did not make any difference. I am planning on driving the neighborhood with my 6 meter HT to see if I can locate the source, but short of finding anything, is it possible that this is just an issue with the Icom 706MKIIG having too wide of a front end?
Thanks,
Patrick Burke
