Hi all, A nice little cell popped up between myself and Garth down in
EM38AX, so we gave it a go on 10 Ghz rain scatter.
The cell was right at the midpoint and direct path - some on each side of
direct was available, but it seemed that direct was the best to try.
However, after about 25 minutes with nothing heard, we started messing
around. I finally found him after I bumped the dish elevation. On horizon,
he was no signal. This is a first for me on 10 GHz rainscatter, as at this
shorter distance, I have always heard guys on horizon, then on occasion,
peaked them with a bit of elevation. On peaking after getting going, we
were both pointed east of direct path, Andys' Rainscatter program showed the
responsible cell. Thanks again Andy for your tool, the midpoint feature
helped me decide it was time to give it a go!
0013 UTC - EN13VC to EM38AX - not too far, 308 miles - 495 Km. However, its
a new grid for me and new grid and state for Garth!
Signals in this case were weak, and extreamly distorted. More distorted
than experienced before. Also, he was on 5x1 to 5x2 here on peaks with his
one watt, I was S-0 and into the noise for him, and I run lots more power,
so there were some funky things going on for sure.
If you dont have the RainScatter program by K0SM yet, your missing out!
